Jazz up a Picture

When you pick the date for you wedding, the one thing you don’t have any control over is what the weather is going to be like that day.  If your wedding day is during a time of year where snow or rain is prevalent, a fun way to prepare would be to get galoshes.  They add a little jazz to the wedding photos after the ceremony, and everyone’s feet stay dry!

Two of my good friends, Katelin and Ross, got married a month ago here in St. Louis.   It’s winter here,  so sometimes you have no idea what the weather will be like at any given time.  To prepare, all of their bridesmaids had plaid galoshes to wear under their gorgeous purple dresses.  I love it because it adds a little surprise to the photos and the bridesmaids felt comfortable enough to jump of one of the ledges at City Garden here in St. Louis!

Another way to jazz up your photos post-ceremony is to get cute umbrellas to match your colors.  Along with the umbrellas, each of these bridesmaids chose their own galoshes and it totally worked!  It shows their personal style and you can tell they are having fun together.

But wait, galoshes are not just for bridesmaids.  Brides & Grooms, you can rock galoshes too!  In fact I think you should have a pair on hand if there is any chance of rain the weekend of your wedding.  Because if you do, you’ll get an amazing shot like the below.  Now that’s one I would forever love as a reminder of my wedding day.

So all you Winter and Spring brides out there, consider getting umbrellas and/or galoshes for your bridal party.  They are comfortable and you’re sure to get fun pictures out of using them!

Happy Planning!

Bridesmaid Dresses

One of the best trends out there right now is to have different style bridesmaid dresses in one color, and I hope it is a trend that is here to stay.  Your bridesmaids have the option to pick a dress that they feel comfortable in, and it matches their style and personality.

Flowery Place Cards

Love this idea found via Martha Stewart Weddings.  Fabric flowers used as place cards for all of your guests, but can then turn into a keepsake for them.  The girls can wear on dresses or you could give your man his own boutonniere.  If girls can turn ties into stylish accessories for themselves by the end of the night at receptions, trust me, your friends could have fun with this.

fabric flowers

All you need is fabric flowers, floral tape, and a brooch pin.  You attach the brooch pin by using the floral tape to the stem of the flower, and then have a calligrapher or use a calligrapher pen to write all the guests names down on a piece of card stock and stick through the pin.

And if you’re feeling like a DIY project, you could make these pretty flower pins yourself by using ribbon.  Check out the tutorial from Make it Do on how to make the flower below.  These would be a cute idea for a bridal shower, or a smaller garden wedding.

A post for your Bridesmaids

My future sister-in-law is getting married this June at a beautiful location in St. Louis called the Butterfly House.  And as a bridesmaid in her wedding; myself, my sister-in-law, and another family member are throwing the ‘bride to be’ a fabulous bridal shower in a few months.    As a bride, this is an exciting time for you to celebrate your upcoming wedding with close friends and family members in a more intimate setting.

While researching some DIY ideas for the shower we are throwing, I came across this super cute Retro Chic Bridal Shower on The Hostess with the Mostess Blog and had to share it with you.  The bridal shower was designed and hosted by Alison Donahue.

The retro coasters above are from Hello Lucky and there are closeups of the cute tablescape below.

The blue napkins were tied with raffia and the super cute polka dot runner was hand sewn using fabric from JoAnn’s Fabric.  You can purchase natural colored raffia at Michael’s and occasionally you can find other colors like green and red there as well.   And making a runner like this for the shower could easily transition to being a gift for the Bride & Groom to use in their home as a reminder of their wedding shower shared with all of you.

Alison Donahue created these beautiful flower arrangements by using clear vases that she wrapped in paper from Paper Source Michael’s carries a wide variety of ribbon that you could for sure coordinate with the runner and the paper for the vases.

I just had to share the little details below.  Using chocolate and blue ribbon woven in a cake stand is a great way to present food to the guests at the wedding shower.  You could even use this idea for a dessert bar at your wedding!

Have fun Brides & Bridesmaids!
